What We Celebrated: History and its Making
For this day, we celebrated those little waves made in the past that continue to ripple in our present. Plus, we also celebrated our ex-Art Director Nikkie’s birthday! She happens to be a fixture in both our past and present lives. Since Nikkie’s an exceptionally Oriental character, we decided to head to Dezâto Mochi Cafe.

Delicious, sinful, sensational, yum! Besides the tartufo (that’s truffle to you non-Italians) pizza and pasta, we had some spicy beef ramen, beef Dezato donburi (that’s rice bowl to you non-Asians) and—of course—mochi balls and mochi ice cream for dessert. From white chocolate to walnuts, matcha green tea, to someone’s favorite strawberry, the flavors were mindblowingly melt-in-yo-mouth. All washed down with some fancy-flavored iced teas, too. We capped the night with a special hand-drip Guatemalan coffee brew care of Craft Coffee Workshop. Artisanal coffee? Sign us up for the grand opening!

We all know it’s best to share happy moments with happy people, especially friends, right? Well, get this: Maria, Dezâto’s main gal, is apparently a close friend of my brother. The free coffee? Yet another friend who was also friends with Maria. Meanwhile, they all went to the same school as our Creative Director Patrick, whose STATUS origin story with ex-Art Director Nikkie is another one for the books. Forget six degrees of separation, we were all instantly connected without having to confirm any friend requests! Hopefully, our new buddies weren’t too embarrassed when we had a pseudo-food photography competition among the three (two current, one former) art peeps on their iPhones. You be the judge!

What We Caroled:
Rascal Flatts got the idea pretty spot on in “Life Is A Highway,” but here are some other songs we rocked to.

“Lowrider” – War; Take a little trip, take a little trip!

“Friends of Friends” – Hospitality; “You’ve got friends that are new friends. And friends that are old friends…”

“Turning Japanese” – The Vapors; Uh, yeah. Dezato was that good.

“Endless Blue” – The Horrors; “In endless blue, reflections look so good. You’re never certain of anything unless you go in.”

What We Wish:
History isn’t always about sentiment and things gone by. It’s about the roads we take and choices we make along the way. And eventually, paths will cross. So for this day, we wish people can recognize these connections, possibly reconnect with an old friend you haven’t talked to in a while? Give a stranger a smile? Make history, not babies? Er, nevermind. See you at the crossroads!

WTF Moment:
Besides the art trio’s little “photo competition,” well, hitting the road involves some twists and turns. And sometimes, bratty little boys will misdirect you and make you go around in circles before you realize the restaurant is just down the road. Oh well. It’s all about the journey, not the destination, right?

Oh, and yet another typical STATUS moment: Right after we gobbled up our mochi, we realized they had laid out plates and forks for us. Oops?—D-SIÓN
