When you watch the Grammys, there’s always going to be great and bad moments. Hell, there’s even some questionable and odd stuff that goes on. But at this point, it’s normal now. So here are some highs, lows, and crazy stuff that happened during this year’s festivities.
Chance the Rapper wins Best New Artist
And if that wasn’t enough, he also won Best Rap Album, beating out big names like Kanye, Drake, and De La Soul. “I want to thank God for my mother and my father, who supported me since I was young, for Kirsten, for Kensli, for all of Chicago, and I want to thank God for putting amazing people in my life,” shares Lil Chano during his speech.
Beyoncé’s Heart-stopping Performance
Beyoncé proved that pregnancy wasn’t going to stop her from giving the best performance that she can manage. She wowed the crowd performing Lemonade‘s “Love Drought” and “Sandcastles” before making our eyes pop out with that chair-tipping stunt.
Adele’s Winning Speech
Though Queen Bey led this year’s nominations, Adele edged out as winner, for not only Song of the Year but also Record of the Year AND Album of the Year. In fact, she won all five awards she was nominated for. During her final speech, she professed her love for Beyoncé and her album Lemonade when she accepted Album of the Year.
Adele Stops her George Michael Tribute Halfway
As much as Adele had the night, she couldn’t finish her tribute for George Michael. She stopped midway, cursed, and requested to repeat the performance of “Fast Love,” saying that she “can’t mess this up for him.”
Metallica and Lady Gaga’s Technical Issues
If you thought Adele’s do over was sad, then you shouldn’t have seen what happened when Metallica and Lady Gaga performed onstage. As Metallica frontman James Hetfield’s mic didn’t work during the beginning of the performance, Gaga saved the segment by sharing her mic with him. In his frustration, James kicked his mic stand and tossed his guitar after the performance.
James Corden “Falls”
For a second, people thought that James Corden actually did get stuck and fall down the stairs. Then it was revealed to be scripted. Cool.
Twenty One Pilots Strip Off their Pants
Before getting up to accept their rewards, the electropop duo suddenly stripped off their pants, saying they made a pact that if they ever won a Grammy, they’d take their pants off.
This isn’t a big surprise anymore. So many artists arrive at the Grammys, and at least half of them come dressed in strange and absurd clothing. From CeeLo Green dressing up like a piece of Ferrero Rocher to Girl Crush looking like a mobile ball pit, it’s like they hired Harper from Wizards of Waverly Place to do their clothes or something.–ERNEST TO GOODNESS
