Running on its fourth year, the iHeartRadio Music Awards always swoops in just in time to cure the awards show fever, giving us another chance to see the biggest stars in the music industry all in one place. Aside from the red carpet looks, list of winners, and surprise appearances (see: DJ Khaled and son presenting Ed Sheeran), here are five highlights that caught our attention at The Forum, Inglewood CA.
- Zayn and Gigi Hadid’s message for Best Music Video Award
— zayn (@zaynmalik) March 5, 2017
Zayn may have missed the awards show, but someone let slip that the heart trophy was going to him. In return, he tweeted a little video, starring his own co-star in the video i.e. Gigi.
- Halsey and The Chainsmokers’ speech
Shocker there! Our August 2016 cover boys‘ summer song was bound to win. Sarcasm aside, what did shock us was amidst the gratitude being given during their speeches, Halsey’s little tip of the hat to what a tough year it’s been. We can take a light guess on what she was referring to there (maybe something that was set in stone around November 8 last year).
- Chris Martin stole Katy Perry’s performers for Coldplay’s speech
Winning Best Tour Award, Chris Martin made his way up the stage, but he wasn’t alone. Knicking three of the kids in worker outfits that danced alongside Katy Perry during her performance, they read his speech from a card and made threw some T at One Direction.
- Miley Cyrus’s Big Sister moment
There was nothing subtle about it. Coming in with an “I Heart Noah” shirt complete with a placard conveying the same message, Miley was anything but calm about presenting her little sister Noah for her very first live performance, and also making iHeartRadio history as the youngest performer.
- Justin Timberlake gives no f*cks
Bagging the Song of the Year Award for “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” Justin Timberlake started his speech with a message to the young kids, while also referring to himself as a sissy singing boy from Tennessee. “If you are black or you are brown or you are gay or you are lesbian or you are trans…anyone that is treating you unkindly, it’s only because they are afraid or they have been taught to be afraid of how important you are.”–PEPPERMINT BUTLER
