Last Saturday, we attended the launch of a new local brand that’s changing the face of Manila’s independent market. A Dissertation On Style invites the youth to rethink their style persona with a set of emerging talents focused on a robust new fashion direction.

The warehouse-like venue was adorned with various gear from various brands. We spotted crowd faves Proudrace and Thank You Today, along with street-savvy Unschld, promising new label, The Artisan, and several other eye-catching goodies. (Stylebreak, Zoo Shoes, The Gallery, Blackbook Designs, and Wip Caps, to be specific!)
But, of course, apart from the awesome wares and wears, the night was about having fun with mood-setting music and booze. More than the clothes, it was really a celebration of the uproarious underground taking over in packs of guys in gingham, fedoras, and deck shoes. Girls in splattered, tattered coats, oversized shirtdresses, and layers of chains and bangles.

The uniform has been prescribed, and the curriculum slated. Now line up, it’s off to graduation!—GIO DIONISIO
