Yayoi Kusama, one of the big kahunas of 1960s avante-garde art, just celebrated her 80th birthday, with a mixed media art installation in Gagosian Gallery, NYC last April 16- June 27, 2009. Doesn’t sound like such a party? You should see how stunning it was.
This is the “Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity,” a play on lights and space, it has lights draping from the ceiling casting shadows over the water below. This installation gives the illusion of infinity, one of Kusama’s favorite themes.
