Gerry Katigbak‘s latest anthology takes inspiration from an eclectic mix of Asian influences and sacristy vestments with traditional elements like detailed embroidery and beaded hems on sheer cover-ups over edgily cut swimwear. And let’s not forget the different homages to Philippine traditional costume including some revamped barongs and drape-panel blazers. Saucy colonial homages, anyone?
The collection opened with light neutrals, airy white cover-ups over beige swimsuits (ideal for any illustrado sophisticates looking to sport her stuff on the white sandy beaches of a private resort, if you know what I mean?), and then transitioned into a stronger palette of black and white lace-detailed pieces that had more structure and sexuality. The unexpected criss-crossing cutouts on his black swimsuits and briefs were to die for! Definitely an interesting take on a long gone era, proving that some aesthetics cannot fade with time.—ME LOVE YOU LOONG TIME
