Great Scott! It’s 2015. Fans, including us at the Status HQ, have been waiting for this moment for ages. For the first half of this 2-part series (cause we’re too geeked out to just write about it once), we focus on the technology we should have by now according to Back to the Future II. As we re-watched the second part of this iconic sci-fi franchise, we realized that Robert Zemeckis got some of it right: from video conferencing, tablets, biometrics, soundboards, to 3D technology. But what else have we yet to get our hands on, and exactly how close are we to getting there? Here’s what we’re crossing our fingers for this year:
Most of us spent our childhood waiting for the day our mom brings home a tiny pizza and magically grows it in seconds, all thanks to this scene.
What we have so far: Microwaves. Not as magical, but heats our pizza nevertheless. We can’t complain.
Interactive 3D Billboards
I mean, the technology is there, so what are you waiting for, people? Plus, Jaws 19. Yes.
What we have so far: 3D movies and much better graphics.
We’re definitely getting there. The distraction over gadgets in this scene is on point though.
What we have so far: Well, we have Google glasses! It might be on the same level but it’s yet to control the entire house. That’ll be the day.
Automatic Dog Walker
Because anything that flies, well, flies with us.
What we have so far: No badass hovering yet, but we do have these dog treadmills that are adorable and amusing.
Because we’re on board with anything that has to do with shoes.
What we have so far: Is it sad to say that velcro is the closest thing we have? But not to fear, a Kickstart campaign for this is on the works, trying to beat Nike, which announced a planned 2015 release last year.
This one is a long-shot, but when it does happen, we hope they make one in the form of a Delorean.
What we have so far: A concept of a flying car, the Aeromobil has been around since 2013. It’s yet to come out to the masses though, but here’s to hoping!
What we have so far: We have a variety of boards out there, but the Hoverboard is well on its way. Hendo had none other than Tony Hawk ride the first model last year. Let’s just hope it comes to the market before October!
So, some of these gadgets aren’t there yet. But not to worry, we still have nine months till October. There’s an official countdown to the date itself, so we never forget. Hopefully where (or when) we’re going, we don’t need roads. –JILL PILL
