lookbook_12_lgMental becomes marvy when Bedford Street Laundry takes a spin around looneyville in its Fall 2011 collection.

Not everyone finds inspiration in the different aspects of a mental institution. That’s exactly why we love Bedford Street Laundry’s designer, Jessica Yuen. Taking basic design elements from antique medical restraints and straitjackets, the 25-year-old Parsons alum gives us an brilliant collection of wrap-around-tops, hoodies, vests, dresses that speak of an unhinged chick who knows how to be chic.

Edgy yet elegant, the Bedford Street Laundry’s Fall collection gives modern updates to classic silhouettes as sexy (implied) cutouts are juxtaposed with long sleeves and high necks to beg more from the imagination. Avant-garde with her construction as well as her design, Jessica used unconventional materials  goat suede, industrial rubber, and Jiffy Grip to bring her clothes to life.

If you like what you see, stay tuned for the release of BSL’s Spring 2012 collection late this September. Inspired by Zephyr Skateboard Team member Peggy Oki and the 1959 movie Gidget, Yuen’s promised to bring out your inner tomboy.—DEXYLEBOWSKI
