From earning a living as a pro skater to designing clothing, you’d totally consider Keith Hufnagel to be a jack of all trades. STATUS had a little chat with Huf for Status 06 here’s a preview of how the talk went

STATUS: Pro skater to shop keeper seems like a huge leap. What were the difficulties in setting up your brand from scratch?

HUF: The only thing those two jobs have in common is that they both take a lot of work and dedication. I got a lot of help making the leap from companies that sponsored me in skating. They have been good to me when I needed advice.

London-based brand Maharishi has collaborated with Adidas on the timeless Stan Smith sneaker. It comes in white and two shades of blue with the Maharishi logo appearing on the heel. Set for release in Fall 2009.

10.Deep is re-releasing the “Up There” tee they launched with alongside Kid Cudi’s mixtape last year. The “10.Deep Presents: A Kid Named Cudi” mixtape was produced by Plain Pat and Emile. It will be available starting May 20th at the 10spot.

D.C , French Designer Akroe, and Sixpack France released a collaboration called Non Merci. It’s a line composed of high top sneakers and a matching  reversable jacket . The main feature of these two limited editions would have to be its amazing graphic detail, which can be found on the sole of the shoe and inside the jacket.

As usual, Nike does it again. This time, Nike shoves on our plates the Nike Big Nike Wolverine. As seen on the sneak’s colors, it’s inspired from the Marvel comic legend’s uniform. Of course, it ain’t Wolverine if the claws aren’t present. Seeming like Wolverine clawed his way in the side panels, it puts that oomph into these sneakers.

I believe wanting to help is something innate in everyone, we just don’t know how we can sometimes. We all saw and heard about what happened when the killer tsunami hit Southeast Asia in 2004. Wayne Elsey, a shoe company executive, was on the other side of the globe, safe and watching TV, when he saw the image of a single shoe washing ashore on the beach. Elsey felt compelled to help out in some way and he started making calls to some other shoe execs. The result was the donation of a quarter million pairs to the tsunami victims in the affected countries.

When Hurricane Katrina struck a year later, the donations raised for the victims in the gulf coast communities went over a million pairs. This led to the creation of Soles4Souls. Elsey recently left his job to focus entirely on the charity he started and continues to make a difference in the countless lives Soles4Souls reaches out to all over the world.
