Black Mirror is the unbingeable, beautifully traumatizing series made by Charlie Booker that’s making a return for its fourth season on Netflix. Excited is not the right word to describe it, not unless existentialist dread is what gives you excitement in this life. Black Mirror pushes the boundaries of technology and the future. It makes George Orwell’s 1984 sound like a fairytale. On their fourth installment, Big Brother is badder and meaner than ever. It shows on the launch of their teaser trailers of the six episodes last week. — image courtesy of Netflix
Prepare to throw your iPhone X away for this Movie Mondays. But before that, probably hit the share and like button. And then, throw away your smartphones and be nomadic. We’re rating the episode trailers on what will make you say hello to being enlightened and goodbye to your will to live!
Black Mirror – U.S.S. Callister
The series is boldly parodying where no parodies has gone before. This Star Trek inspired, space adventure looks like a departure from your usual Black Mirror episode. With it’s bright colors and out right campiness, this episode sounds like a good ‘ol time for Trekkies out there watching this series.
Black Mirror – Hang the DJ
This is the Tinder rom-com from hell. We don’t mind trying the app ourselves, to be honest. But anything to find your perfect match right?
Black Mirror – Black Museum
Hey, Dan Harmon. We apologize but Charlie Booker’s doing meta storytelling now, thanks! This episode is a nod to the universe that the series revolves in. “If it did something bad, chances are it’s in here,” the Black Museum curator explains. What will this tell us about the series’ episodes? Are they all interconnected? Hold on to your tin foil hats, everyone!
Black Mirror – Crocodile
Mandela Effect’s got you down? Well, it certainly has on this dystopian future in this episode. There are now three sides to every story: what you think happened, what they think happened, and what actually happened. “A mind is a terrible thing to waste”, as Jordan Peele kept echoing in Get Out.
Black Mirror – Metalhead
This could be the bleakest episode in the series. From the trailer, it looks like it is a post-apocalyptic thriller. The episode is all in black and white. That fact could speak volumes about the episode’s tone. But we’ll never know, won’t we? It has brief description that says: “Beware of Dogs.” If that’s the case, then 2018 is a good year for cat people.
Black Mirror – Arkangel
Helicopter parents, it’s now your moment to shine! Have you ever dreamt of molding your child to a specific image? In this episode, your dream child is just one microchip away. The key to good parenting is control, after all.
Black Mirror launches on Friday, December 29.
