See Something, Feel Nothing

What you see ain’t necessarily what you can feel, but that’s exactly the pleasure in this season’s trompe l’oeil (eye trick) microtrend. It’s like  a joke, this Comme des Garçons pair of shoes for example, delightful in its being obvious, in a  conceit that you can’t be fooled anymore.

You don’t really have to believe it, and you’re not expected to. It’s just the possibility of something else–a “what if” sketched in front of you. Now, you can wear a “scarf,” tie a “ribbon,” and close “buttons” without actually having them. Walk barefoot, carry a bag in your bag–whichever you wish to think.
