Most of you have been to at least one STATUS yard sale, while for some next Saturday might be their first. Then there are those dedicated ones who have been through all 7 with us. As some of you may know (*ahem* ladies), a place filled with good finds at decent prices can be a battle field. And unfortunately,we often forget how crazy shoppers can get (*ahem* guys), especially during the holidays! This coming yard sale on December 17 (Saturday) will be no different. Arm yourselves guys and gals! You’re entering a battlefield where only the smartest survive.
Our first strategy is obvious. As they say:
THE EARLY BIRD CATCHES THE WORM
Come early! Not only will you beat the traffic (it’s the holidays, there’ll be traffic EVERYWHERE, EVERYDAY) but you’ll also get first dibs on the best stuff! I remember seeing the tweets from @statusmagazine during the last yard sale and seeing how almost every hour a particular store or item would start getting sold out. You don’t want to be stuck in traffic or at home reading these updates. Trust me!
And speaking of updates…
KEEP UPDATED
When it comes to the STATUS Yard Sale, Twitter and Facebook aren’t just social networking sites. They are what separates the fools from the fabulous. Get connected. Put those Blackberry phones and wi-fi ready devices to good use. Know what’s left, what surprises some stores have brought, and what other cool stuff you might have not known otherwise about. Those short updates can be crucial.
But before anything else, be prepared. Which means…
DO YOUR RESEARCH
Know the participating stores and what they sell. Make a note of the things you really want to get. It’ll save you both time and money. We know you love all the brands and people that sell during the yard sale (we do too!) but focus. Unless you have a sh*t ton of cash with you, better budget and grab the most important (or most wanted) first, so that you can leave happy knowing that you got what you came for. (We don’t have the items on this list, but it’s a good example to follow)
And while you’re at it…
DRESS FOR THE OCCASSION
Forget the heels for a day. Bring comfy shoes that you can easily remove, and don’t wear anything too bulky. Most, if not all the stores don’t have a dressing room. And I doubt they’d let you go to the bathroom with their product, so for everyone who wants to try on items such as clothing and shoes, be sure you’re wearing shoes that are easy to remove and put back on, and clothing that you can layer over, but please, like I always say, keep it classy!
