Paint the Town—Literally

Dutch artistic duo Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn paint a town in a multitude of colors. Inspired by their visit to Rio and São Paolo for an MTV documentary, they’ve decided to stay there, and start sharing their impressive and breathtaking art to enormous murals in towns needing pieces of happiness and hope.

Turning a grey shanty town to an inspirational work of art, the duo already covered 34 houses in a design of colorful rays that brightens the city (and I mean that physically and philosophically). This Favela Painting Project put color into the lives of the people of Rio as it created new jobs and increased the youth’s participation.

Besides, art shouldn’t just be something nice to look at, right? It should be able to transform a space and communicate with anyone who looks at it. -SEREENA
