Kill Your Idols

1Come on. Don’t take the title literally. It’s just that these days, one way or another, idolizing celebrities can be unhealthy so instead of going the route of putting them on pedestals–why not add a hint of  humor to make the field even? With Louisa Bertman’s illustrations, we get to see powerful figures from Jacko, Fergie, to Ringo Starr in their non-idealized image. The rawness makes them look more flawed, more human, and umm…well…more charmingly accessible.

Bertman has worked for GQ, The Village Voice, and The LA Times, aside from her portraiture gigs for people like Cyndi Lauper, Ziggy Marley, and Hilary Duff. It’s great because she can balance sarcasm without going all the way offensive. She captures huge personalities and everyday people without sugarcoating. Time to get real huh? Wonder what Warhol would say about that, after all he once said that “Everybody’s plastic, but I love plastic. I want to be plastic.” -TINDABS
