I promised myself that, when I finally blog about Mike Posner’s visit here in Manila, I wouldn’t go all fangirl. Tsk. I’m sorry, but some promises are meant to be broken.
Our February 2011 Maestro Mike Posner flew all the way from Michigan to Manila to sing his hits off 31 Minutes To Takeoff and his new mixtape, The Layover. Please download it here, will ya? Took him a while to get up on that stage in Glorietta, but damn, once we heard his signature “Well, alriiiigggghhht” lead, then he threw on it (with his awesome jacket on), IT. WAS. OVER. The crowd went wild and fought their way through the front of the stage.
Just too bummed that he didn’t sing some of our favorites: “Smoke and Drive,” “Ambiguous,” ”You Don’t Have To Leave,” but I guess him covering Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep,” Oasis’ “Wonderwall,” and R. Kelly’s “Ignition” made up for it. Mad props to his wild drumming skills, too.
Almost threw a fit when he didn’t hand me that huge stuffed teddy bear (lucky girl in the front row, if you’re reading this, better take care of that!), but STATUS Fashion Editor Dizzyrizzy and I got a hug and a “BEST INTERVIEW EVER” + “I’ll be back 4 u” written on our CDs for P430 each. Yeah, killed our dinner money to cop ‘em, but you know how you gotta work that carpe diem, right?
Of course, a true fan won’t miss the chance to see him perform again that same night. He is, in fact, not just a cutie but a real performer. So I headed over to 7th High. I love how he always ends up surprising us. Fine, he only sang 4 songs, but damn, he took that shirt off!
Forgive me for the photos. It was so hard to concentrate on the camera’s focus when he was just right in front of me. Thank you for that fantastic night, Ayala Malls, Visions PR, and 7th High! BRAINS UP!—HITGIRL
