Rainbow-colored outrage spilled all over the internet last week in the form of protest after news of Netflix cancelling their arguably most diverse and inclusive series broke out. In a statement released last June 1, Netflix’s VP of Original Content, Cindy Holland announced:
“After 23 episodes, 16 cities, and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end. It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable…”
The progressive sci-fi show boasted an eclectic international ensemble cast that included people of color and LGBT characters–all of whom were given equal amounts of screen time, proper representation, and compelling stories to boot. Which is why the date of the show’s cancellation only added insult to injury seeing as it was announced on the first day of pride month, an exasperating fact Sense8 fans from literally all over the world have refused to let go of, vocalizing their disappointment and anger on various social media platforms.
In a bid to get the show renewed for a third season, its passionate fans created a petition which has now been signed by over 400,000 supporters and counting, proving the undeniable wide reach of the show.
