If Only It Were Autumn

nullIf only we can switch seasons with one push of a button, then it wouldn’t be hard to imagine myself wearing one of these new trench coats by Topman. These pieces from what they call “The Trench Coat Project” are a collaboration with different designers like Mihara Yasuhiro, Tim Soar, B Blessing, and stylist Alister Mackie. Wouldn’t it be nice to stroll along some park and stand out amid the falling autumn leaves while wearing one of these? Read the rest of this entry »

Something Cosmic

1No matter how we define ourselves as captains of our own ship, sometimes we just can’t help but cling to chance once in a while to make our lives more exciting. Maybe that’s why we have this affinity to concepts like zodiac, talisman, kismet, and all that fluff. Seems like we’re cosmically drawn too with Delfina Delettrez’ accessory collection My World including  talisman earrings, Mayan symbols, among other fatally intriguing stuff. On Track

1We were at the DC Shoe Co. fashion show at the Makati Shangri-La last night where we got a sneak peek at what they’ve got coming for Holiday 2010. That Funny Disease

nullIn our film issue, we told you about Ken Davitian. His “neurolensia,” aka his “disease to be in front of a camera,” makes him the perfect choice for his  humorous roles that other actors might have found displeasing to portray. And now, his neurolensia is satisfied again in the 2010 film  Melvin Smarty. Read the rest of this entry »

F*ck Art, Let’s Dance

1Before we intellectualize everything, it’s nice that we could stop for a while and enjoy the moment while it lasts. This goes for art too. With the exhibition F*ck Art, Let’s Dance this March 12-19, we can actually appreciate art in its purest form. Forget about knowing if it’s impressionism or cubism. What did you really feel? Let’s get right at it in this event curated by Kiko Escora, and see some works from Sharon Atillo, and Jujiin Samonte, among others. Read the rest of this entry »

Still in Wonderland

nullTim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is proof that our obsession with children’s stories and fantastic worlds isn’t going any time soon. The recent hype has even gotten the attention of artists like Amy Sol, Chris Appelhans, Naoto Hattori, and Kukula in the ongoing exhibit titled Curiouser and Curiouser. Read the rest of this entry »

And the Winner is

1So for the first time in Oscar history, a woman won the Best Director Award. Kathryn Bigelow, who directed the cult classic, Point Break, won the award for The Hurt Locker which ended up sweeping the show with multiple Oscars. It was amazing to see a small indie film win over big Hollywood juggernauts. Even seeing the film Precious get so many nominations was truly amazing. It just goes to show that you don’t need the very deep pockets of the Hollywood studios to pull off a successful film. Read the rest of this entry »

Oscar 2010 Fashion Round-up

Modern Men

1To all you modern women, I have a question. How fashionable would you allow your man to be? I mean, fine, let them wear the most exquisite shoes and watches. Most of the  time, that does the trick right? But with Gareth Pugh’s Autumn/ Winter collection, we see men wearing wide-leg pants or is that a skirt? Read the rest of this entry »

Rather Ripped

1Layering is such a joy, isn’t it? But if summer’s in, that doesn’t mean you can’t play with your clothes as much as you did the other seasons. During these times when you just want to wear something white, light, or sheer, why don’t you really go for the ripped, torn and sweat-stained look that rockstars have been pulling off since the 70s? With Cesar Padilla’s book, Ripped: T-shirts from the Underground, we get tee inspirations that are as cool as our favorite groups like Run DMC, The Cure, and Talking Heads. The Punch Line

1We’ve witnessed the invasion of the Louis Vuitton logo a  few years back. It’s impossible not to recognize it. But instead of bombarding us with their patterns. They’re now going old school with their Summer 2010 collection, introducing their Punchy Sneakers. Geared with a catchy name and a vintage design, Louis Vuitton is obviously trying to get the attention of preppy boys and sneakerheads alike. Read the rest of this entry »

1If there’s such thing as the Midas touch in fashion, it’s  Balmain’s latest collection. I can go on and on talking about their signature strong shoulders but at the end of the day, their RTW Fall 2010 designs spell out the golden rule which is to look so good that your natural spark’s bound to come out in every way. On the Plus Side

1 You know you got the right jeans when even if you’re wearing the simplest tops–you’re still looking hot. When I say hot, that means absolutely no awkward sagging or those unpleasant muffin tops.  With Blue Notch Spring/ Summer 2010 collection named New Resistance, we simply can’t resist these jeans with zipper and rivet detailings moved to the side instead of the front. nullIndependent screenwriter, director, and  actress Greta Gerwig shared in our filmmaker’s issue how she’s breaking out of her indie circuit’s shell via her role in Noah Baumbach’s Greenberg. The Reluctant Angel

nullActor Sid Lucero is about to grow wings. That’s because he’s set to play “a reluctant angel” in the feature film Paglipad ng Isang Anghel (Flight of an Angel) by Doy del Mundo. The story is about an accountant who’s so innately good that wings start growing on his back. This is a ‘fantastic’ step for Sid since he had been acting mostly in films that tackle social realism in the Philippines.  Read the rest of this entry »

Breaking the Ice

1They say there’s pleasure in discovering what makes a serious woman tick like in those black and white films where the female leads are so attractive because of their distant, almost icy veneers–as if you can never spell what’s going on in their heads. Well, with Iceberg’s Fall 2010 collection, you get to break the ice by knowing at least what these women wear. See the runway shots from Milan Fashion Week after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
