It was just amazing to see private citizens, celebrities, band-aids, band-geeks, glam-ed dolls and all of the above, all in one place, all for one cause. (more…)

Start Small… Dream BIG!
Saturday, April 4th, 2009It all started out during a long break from class until the next one when Jorge Wieneke [does Synth and Programming/ Music Prod. Student] and Pat Sarabia [Wagyu - Drummer / Music Prod. Student] Miguel Hernandez [Band TFN - Music Prod. Night Vision: Eraserheads - Final Set
Tuesday, March 10th, 2009A*FEST @ Saguijo
Tuesday, March 10th, 2009
After some streetside Thai at Som’s, three southerners (myself included) got lost trying to find that tiny, infamous street of Guijo. Finally walked into Saguijo only to realise, upon seeing the screaming long-haired dudes that were performing, that we had missed the first act, instrumental, sound-trippy I Am David Sparkle from Singapore.
A*FEST @ Mag:Net High Street
Tuesday, March 10th, 2009
“This is the effect of cheaper flights,” a guy from the festival crew mutters to me half-amazed as we are swarmed by a mostly non-Filipino crowd swaying in a shoegazing set. “Nice effect, huh?” I say about the ear-clasping synth shifts the local-looking guy with the sunflower guitar strap is probably masterminding. And the cheaper flights too. Suddenly, we see troubadours again, and at least in this part of Asia, the music scene’s now more closely listening to each other. Last Saturday at High Street was also time to bid adieu for these equally hard-rocking neighbours, but as the host said, til the next Asian Music Festival.
A*FEST Night 2: Music, Graffiti, (and Exercise)
Friday, March 6th, 20098PM: A pack of lanky and long-haired Jap cats arrive while a strange pair struggled with huge bags of paint cans, brushes, sprays, and rollers. 9PM: Some white guys load from a cab, and a couple more Takeshi’s Castle players enter the bar. The paint duo begin with some wide strokes of white, green, and orange on the concrete bar fence outside. 10PM: A booming voice announces the name of a band all clad in pink. The first Asian Music Festival went on at ROUTE 196 last night.

Chochukmo (Japan) is a fiery brigade of young pink punks.

Free Love (Malaysia) confessed their love for our local beer.

The Dorques (Philippines) was such a hit with the crowd not only for this cow overall but also for their foxy keytarist doing Jap voice-overs.
Milo Naval’s SURVIVALISM Furniture Installations
Wednesday, March 4th, 2009Just like most artists, Milo Naval is no stranger to neurosis, but he struggles with it through design and came up with a furniture installation in response to the global recession and environmental degradation. This Monday, he launched his first solo exhibit called SURVIVALISM ongoing until March 14. It features works heavily influenced by the idea of recycling—with the same kind of artistry he has showcased in major design-savvy cities like Paris, Milan, and Cologne.
