Ready to Rumble
Wednesday, March 10th, 2010And the Winner is
Tuesday, March 9th, 2010
So for the first time in Oscar history, a woman won the Best Director Award. Kathryn Bigelow, who directed the cult classic, Point Break, won the award for The Hurt Locker which ended up sweeping the show with multiple Oscars. It was amazing to see a small indie film win over big Hollywood juggernauts. Even seeing the film Precious get so many nominations was truly amazing. It just goes to show that you don’t need the very deep pockets of the Hollywood studios to pull off a successful film. (more…)

Modern Men
Monday, March 8th, 2010
To all you modern women, I have a question. How fashionable would you allow your man to be? I mean, fine, let them wear the most exquisite shoes and watches. Most of the time, that does the trick right? But with Gareth Pugh’s Autumn/ Winter collection, we see men wearing wide-leg pants or is that a skirt? (more…)

Volcom Gives Jeans a Chance
Monday, February 15th, 2010
One of the most basic item in our closet are jeans but unfortunately, they’re considered luxury for other people. Volcom gives homeless people a chance to have their own jeans so they teamed up with the National Coalition for the Homeless to help clothe the homeless through their Give Jeans a Chance program. (more…)
The Queen is Dead
Friday, February 12th, 2010
You know the feeling in a chess game when you lose your queen? Multiply that a gazillion times and that’s how we feel for Alexander McQueen’s death. Hailed as one of the greatest talents of his generation, his fearless aesthetic has always wowed the world, most especially the hard-to-please fashion-forward elite including Lady Gaga, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Rihanna. (more…)
Go Ahead and Jump!
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010
Although we live our lives bound by gravity, a great deal of being human is in pushing and rising against it. We exhibit this by indulging in sports. Photographer Ryan McGinley understands this quite well, and it is this defiance against being grounded that he captures in his photo essay and video titled, “The Lightness of Being an Olympian.” (more…)
Obey Awareness for Haiti
Thursday, February 4th, 2010Linger On
Friday, January 29th, 2010
We owe it to people like J.D. Salinger, author of the beloved classic Catcher in the Rye, to voice out our thoughts and our abhorrence for phoniness. He captured adolescence in its most poignant moments–whether it’s about dysfunctional families, precocious children, or dead-end relationships. He’s one of the first modern voices who until now never ceases to influence our thinking. So when he died on the 27th, we can’t help but feel as if we’ve lost a good old buddy. (more…)
The ‘Beat’ Goes On
Sunday, January 24th, 2010
The Beat generation never gets old. It always inspires us. What better way to remember it than a Kerouac novel? That’s why Ed Rushca combined the original text of On the Road with his black and white photos. Though the text is already a stand alone masterpiece–it wouldn’t hurt to make the experience more vivid with images of jazz players, endless desert roads, among other youthful meanderings. (more…)

The creative minds behind Hellz just came out with a men’s line called GPPR which stands for: the Gentleman, the Philosopher, the Pervert, and the Rebel. Put all these into one rollicking Spring/ Summer 2010 collection and you’ll get “The Last Gang in Town”–which feels like seeing a ‘cult’ favorite. (more…)

STATUS HQ Unveiled
Wednesday, January 13th, 2010
This is how we do it. This is how we turn our ideas into action, our thoughts into things–yessir–no sugarcoatin’–we just love what we do and we want to share it with you. We brainstorm because we believe that the only climate to follow is our own state of mind. We create because we define reality in our terms. We visualize the future. We live for today. There’s no stopping us. (more…)

Absolut Appeal
Tuesday, December 8th, 2009
Flip a page in one of your magazines and I’m pretty sure you won’t miss an ABSOLUT Vodka ad. It’s simple, catchy, and effective. I mean who else can make the omission of the letter ‘e’ in a word look charming and iconic? Gotta give it up for these advertising gurus. However, they’re also going back to the basics by juxtaposing the usual combination of alcohol and women spelling out pleasure in every angle. Bursting out the pages are the lovely muses, Kate Beckinsale and Zooey Deschanel. (more…)
Pausing for Peace
Friday, December 4th, 2009
You can’t just sit around when you know something unbelievably wrong has happened such as the Maguindanao massacre that makes us question the humanity and moral balance of our people. So this December 6, from 2pm onwards, let’s pause for peace at MRT stations and join Rock the Riles 2009. Through music and art, we take part in a collective cry against senseless political killings. Let’s celebrate this moment where we stop saying “who cares?” ‘Cause really, this is a fight for what’s fair. Let’s do it! (more…)

Picasso in 3D
Monday, November 30th, 2009
One of the most prominent anti-war statements in the art world is Picasso’s Guernica which is transformed into a 3D video by Lena Gieseke. Haunting and grotesque, the rich imagery is moving as it portrays the painting in a more realistic setting. Perhaps that’s the beauty of Cubism, it plays with space in a way that alerts the senses. Watch the video and see for yourself. (more…)
