Home is where the heart is – a phrase we all know too well and has been translated in every art piece we can consume. Going back to our roots is a solid advice that people rarely take. But to all our shock, we got that advice ready to wear like a felt heart in our sleeves. The local streetwear brand Nobody just recently launched their fourth Science Project entitled All Roads Lead Home last Friday, September 29 2017 at their birth place Cubao X. — Rogin Warhol
The show will run ’till October 14 2017 at Hiddenspace in Cubao X. Their opening was shrouded in visuals, good music, and great art. All of the three highlighting what Nobody is about. Six The Northstar, NINNO, Dante & Amigo, Thrones, and Aries provided the grooves for the night while laying down a couple of bars to set the mood. In Expo’s always bustling Friday night life, Nobody was the center of everyone’s attention.
Compared to their previous collections, All Roads touches the heart by celebrating how important it is to go back to one’s roots. The signature monochrome and ‘in-your-face’ punk aggression Nobody is known for was lessened for this collection. Light and earthy colors will greet you upon seeing the pieces. Prints of moths, intertwining branches, and leaves are scattered across their pieces as well. Their pieces range from their signatures shirts to irreversible coats that come in tan and peacock blue. This is also the first collection were they collaborated with different artists namely Laraine Navarro Gazmen, MAFK, KKLD, and Zom Kashwak.
Of course, this collection wouldn’t be a Nobody collection without quotes that makes their pieces a literal statement. Apart from their collection being centered on the idea of home, Carl Sagan’s A Pale Blue Dot speech clearly played a big part in All Roads. Their lookbook and the pieces themselves wear his words like a banner. Even though the speech was 27 years ago, it remained timeless for these nobodies.
“If you’re lucky, you’ll get to plant yourself in a city and call it home.” This is one of the quotes in their lookbook that encapsulates the collection and the soul of the brand. Nobody is a streetwear that doesn’t care for the status, but respects beauty and aesthetics. May they get rave reviews or haters is none of their business. This local streetwear’s edge and what makes them themselves is their home. And clearly, that’s all they need.
