The original PUMA Suede was characterized by its bright colors, suede material, and the custom lacing techniques that kids wore throughout the 70s up until the 90s. Slap a pair of these on and you could chill with the coolest kids in the neighborhood. Today, the kids have the Puma Re-Suede collection, featuring an ultra suede upper comprised of 100% recycled polyester fibers, and an outsole made entirely out of Double R Rice Rubber. Toray, a leading developer of environmentally responsible materials, created these alternatives making the footwear exceptionally lightweight. PUMA also got rid of the bulky shoebox; Re-Suede will be sold in PUMA’s “Little Bag” instead, a cutting-edge innovation in sustainable packaging.
How do you change an icon? PUMA seems to have found a way with the Re-Suede collection hitting the Philippines this September at Sole Academy.—HILLBILLY JOEL
