We had singing and dancing and LOST getting shut down at last night’s Emmy’s, but it was also a spectacular red carpet, with a bunch of new faces, and spot on beautiful dresses.
Here we break down our absolute faves by trend, because the stylists were very obvious with them this year!
WHITE

We got three heavenly draped goddesses. Zeus would approve!
Amber Riley debuts on the carpet in a custom Melissa Masse with a simple diamond cuff.
Kim Kardashian was the best in a flowy Marchesa and Lorraine Schwartz armband.
Rose Byrne was a vision in Gucci, with slender gold trims and intricate back detailing.

These two went with the elegant one-shoulder!
Dexter star Julie Benz in a simple Pamella Roland gown with a silver studded cutout and matching neckpiece.
Newbie Nina Dobrev‘s skin glows in this barely blushed Zuhair Murad hammered silk number.

Effortless strapless!
Brooke Burke is head-to-toe flawless with her gorgeous dress, gorgeous hair, and gorgeous smile.
Law & Order may be over, but Mariska Hargitay remains winsome in a body-hugging Vera Wang.
NAVY

Making her way to all the Best Dressed Lists is Lea Michele in Oscar dela Renta and a powerful Lorraine Schwartz statement necklace.
Another Glee girl in midnight tones is Jayma Mays in a romantic Burberry Prorsum.

A big night for Modern Family and Julie Bowen who wore an asymmetric silk gazar gown from J. Mendel.
Jane Krakowski‘s custom Escada is a blend of matte and glossy navy shades with a matching Bvlgari clutch.

Padma Lakshmi must be proud for Top Chef, which broke The Amazing Race‘s Emmy streak. She should also be proud of her understated Carolina Herrera ensemble paired with a jeweled bib from her own line.
Connie Britton shines Friday Night Lights bright in Burberry’s take on the navy palette.
BLACK & BEADED
Classic black gets glitzed with no-fail sparkly beadwork.

Sheer strength from Jennifer Carpenter in this dark gunmetal sequined stunner.
Kelly Osbourne shows off her sexy figure in a Tony Ward couture gown.
Paula Abdul radiates in the sultry liquid metal trend.

Sorry to say, but Claire Danes fails to impress this time around, with a now predictable look.
The Glee babes blazed on the carpet. Here’s Heather Morris one-upping Miss Danes in gold Ina Soltani.
Perfectly embellished to the high heavens, the lovely Maria Menounos.
FROTHY & DREAMY
Simply deserving of the title “Best Dressed.”

Bombshell Christina Hendricks looks straight out of a fairy tale in this desaturated periwinkle Zac Posen.
Keri Russell keeps it light, breezy, and summertime-friendly in a pink Jean Louis Scherrer frock.

Emily Deschanel in a violet Max Azria Atelier ruffled piece.
She struck chords with her moving In Memoriam performance, but before that, Jewel was a personal fave in her immaculate Zuhair Murad frills and chunky Jacob & Co. jewelry.
THE THIGH-HIGH SLIT

One trend that took a lot of guts to don, and even more stylishness to pull off was the thigh-high slit. Out of everyone, the praise-worthy undertakers simmer down to two: Brooke Burke (pictured earlier, in white) and Rutina Wesley (center).
Eva La Rue (left) overdid it, and just looks too risqué, while Naya Rivera (right) over-overdid it. She might make a great prom queen in this, but she should’ve consulted with her Glee co-stars before bringing that unpolished, major updo drama to the Emmy’s.
Overall, this red carpet has been the best one this year. No signs of obvious designer choices (except Armani, which is welcome after the Met Gala’s lack of him) but a lot of undeniable chic. LOST’s loss was a bitter blow, but the fashions, at least, were super sweet.—GIO DIONISIO
