Teeming with Filipino influences, Jaki Penalosa harnesses the fabric of her namesake – the piña.
The classic Filipino garb proves to never goes out of style and Jaki turns out to be just one of the many modern designers to put a fresh new spin on the traditional barong tagalogs and even hints of the terno.
Going all out on ingenious cuts and shapes, the designer appends a feminine aesthetic to the old-world look with embroidered edges, high-hemlined shifts, and necklines that take the deepest plunges. We’ve gone a long way from that Maria Clara winking behind her fluttering lace fan. —DALLAS DEEPKISS
