If you haven’t yet, be sure to grab a copy of the latest issue of STATUS! Among the talented artists featured in the issue is Ryan McGinley. Although he is best known for his tasteful tantalizing nudes and penchant for capturing movement, Ryan McGinley also enjoys pushing the envelope in other ways. One such instance is this recent editorial entitled “We Don’t Need No Education” wherein the photographer swapped professional adult models for children, adding a completely new element to haute couture.
Fresh from his whimsical campaigns for Stella McCartney—the one with the superimposed Bambi characters and the one for McCartney’s children’s line for GAP—McGinley continued with the lightheartedness and did this editorial for French magazine, Purple Fashion.
The shoot was styled by acclaimed Panos Yiapanis with children in various designer couture creations. For garb supposedly meant for society’s elite, the clothes actually look stunning on the kids. Moreover, the shoot really exudes a sense of playfulness as opposed to the usual high fashion pout and cinched waist—definitely a fresh take on such luxurious threads.
