When English-Irish boy band One Direction decided to call it quits, their fandom had to overcome the five stages of grief (although the acceptance stage is still up for debate.) The group’s decision almost caused a riot online, but now, each member resurfaced with new music of their own, so all is well in the 1D universe.
For this week’s Tunesday, let’s take a look on how the ex-members are doing in terms of their new singles and new sound. Which one headed toward the right direction?
Zayn was the first one to leave the group and according to his interview in Fader magazine, he said that there was no room for him to experiment creatively in a band. So experiment he did on his first single “Pillowtalk” featuring model and girlfriend Gigi Hadid.
The next ex-1D who released his debut single would be Niall; he went to that acoustic balladeer angle, which fits him perfectly. His first single “This Town” has that modern folksy sound that really showed his versatility as a singer and a guitar player.
This lad did not waste any time and collaborated with one of the most hardworking and in-demand DJs in the world Steve Aoki for the song “Just Hold On.” The single was made available in iTunes.
And Harry with the good hair jumped in to the bandwagon of releasing solo endeavors. “Sign of the Times” is his first single and has already performed at Saturday Night Live. Aside from releasing his solo album, Harry will make his acting debut in the movie Dunkirk with Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, and Kenneth Branagh.
The last from the lot to release a solo single is Liam but it’s massive because the song “Strip That Down” features Quavo from Migos and was co-written by Ed Sheeran. No official music video has been released yet of the danceable tune but I’m sure we wont have to wait that long. – THE D
