The 2010 MET Ball

Let’s be honest, this year’s Costume Institute Gala red carpet was underwhelming for the most part. Most of the stars that arrived failed to sparkle, but as usual there were a few who shined.

Supermodels Jessica Stam and Karlie Kloss were two of the most stunning women who sashayed down that carpet.
The neckline on Stam’s Rachel Roy gown was flattering, and she accessorized aptly with gold. Donna Karan worked wonders on Karlie’s petite frame and she also displayed one of the night’s trends: backless.

The reigning trend, however, was metallic. The glamour achieved with the dazzling materials was perfect for the event.

Anna Wintour, the night’s co-host, stunned in silver Chanel. Meanwhile, the extremely elegant and talented Marion Cotillard took on Dior, topping Best Dressed lists as expected.

Nicole Richie’s dark locks complement the shine of her Marc Jacobs. Claire Danes kept it light, opting for this strapless Burberry with minimal accessories.

Anne Hathaway looked radiant in Valentino, as did Demi Moore in Lanvin.

The night’s favorite designer had to be Michael Kors who gave us three of the chicest ensembles, including that on his muse Brooke Shields.

Natasha Poly and Chanel Iman (no hate!) were stand-outs in a flowing champagne piece and liquid gold jumper by Kors.

This year, Young Hollywood’s starlets were ahead of the seasoned carpet veterans, making it to our honorable mentions.

Kate Bosworth in Valentino and Kristen Bell in Diane von Furstenberg glow in nude and neutral tones.

Carey Mulligan and Emilie de Ravin remain playful in floral Miu Miu and gorgeously silky Valentino.

Albeit, since we couldn’t stop shaking our heads throughout most of the red carpet moments, here are some things to avoid next time.

Okay, even the models can get it wrong. Gisele Bundchen and Karolina Kurkova. What happened?!

Someone should’ve handed Anja Rubik a brush. Bad styling aside, at least Kristen Stewart actually smiles now.

Zac Posen created both these dresses, and it shows how things can go either way for designers.
I adore Coco Rocha’s. The train is lovely and she looks like an ethereal goddess.
Doutzen Kroes, on the other hand, is absolutely swallowed by the volume of her dress.

Two red carpet surprises, though, happened in the form of no-shows. That is, no Armani to be seen and even more shocking, perhaps, no Lady GaGa! She was apparently busy preparing for her performance that night.—GIO DIONISIO
