The past couple of days have seen big names make their sexuality known to the public. And, with iTunes and the abundance of mp3 players, we have playlists for literally everything. So in lieu of Anderson Cooper and Frank Ocean’s coming out, here are five songs to start off our Coming Out playlist. Below are five songs with some subtle (and not-so-subtle) themes of coming out:
“Coming Clean” by Green Day
In an interview, Billie Joe Armstrong, the band’s frontman, admits that this single off Dookie is about his struggle coming to terms with his sexuality.
“Andy, You’re A Star” by The Killers
When the band’s first album, Hot Fuss, came out (pun not intended), there were many a speculation over Brandon Flower’s sexuality because of this particular track. In it, he talks about his infatuation of a certain Andy. Is this Andy a boy or a girl? We’re still not sure.
“She-Wolf” by Shakira
This isn’t exactly a coming out song, but it works. Men and women of the world, heed Shakira’s word, and let out your inner beast… so it, and you, can breathe.
“Thinking About You” by Frank Ocean
It wouldn’t be right to make a coming out playlist based on Anderson Cooper and Frank Ocean without including Frank Ocean. The boy mentioned in this song happens to be his first love. A love, according to the muscian, that changed his life.
“I’m Coming Out” by Diana Ross
What coming out playlist would be complete without this classic?—WHO’S YOUR DANI?
