Looking back at our career aptitude tests, we only had four choices for our future jobs: to be a doctor, an engineer, a lawyer or a disappointment. Our asian parents say we can only get the D if it comes with a ph spelled before it, but here we are, acing our phD on sarcastic studies. Jokes aside, we understand how this blueprint was designed with all the best intentions, but there’s a new level of wokeness in 2017 that a lot of our older generations hasn’t reached yet. Millennials these days are brewing with creativity, it can’t be contained in test tubes. While some artists have the platform to go beyond the course of a 9-5 job, others bravely face the challenge of being boxed in the corporate life. Still, for all you frustrated artists sitting at a desk, don’t let the long hours trick you into thinking that you can’t be creative and business savvy at the same time. Your parents may have forced you into where you are now, but millennials prove how coffee with a shot of rebellious determination could do wonders. Here is Status’ survival guide to all the creative people stuck in a course they don’t like – if all else fails, just say that that you can’t spell earth without art.
Keep Yourself Inspired
This is probably the most important thing to do for a creative person stuck in a course they don’t like. Anything can be interesting as long as you don’t lose sight of the keyword – interest. Stay interested and curious, listen to music, keep practicing, read, watch movies, do things that makes you feel like yourself.
It’s important to know that you are not the only person that’s looking for an outlet to release their creative juices, and most probably, some of them may have already found each other and made an organization. Look for them, join them, and help each other. They will accompany you in finding yourself and help you explore your passion.
Take A Break
Giving yourself to one goal is hard enough, but to give yourself two goals? There will definitely come a time where you’ll exhaust yourself, so don’t push yourself too much. Take a breather, relax, clear your mind and meditate. Remember, you cannot pour from an empty cup.
