There’s the return of The Walking Dead on TV, and then there’s a movie adaption of World War Z in the works. Seems like we’ve been infected by the zombie virus. But after all the vampires and werewolves we’ve been having on the screens, zombies are exactly what we need right now. At least we couldn’t pretty them up with glitter. Check out our top 7 favorite zombie somethings.
1. Dead movies by George Romero
“When there’s no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth.” You are not a zombie fan if you haven’t watched George Romero’s films (Night of the Living Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, you know how it goes). But the best one would be Dawn of the Dead ‘coz of the social commentary, Tom Savini FX and makeup, and pop art perspectives. Actually, I think it’s not only the best Romero film, but it’s clearly the best zombie film.
2. Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead
Don’t we all need a survival 101 for the nearing apocalypse?
Shaun of the Dead falls under number 2, ‘coz it almost has the same formula: blood, gore, and comedy, which is the ideal combination, must I say.
3. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
How often do you get to picture Elizabeth Bennet being attacked by zombies? Thank you Seth Grahame-Smith for your imagination, mashing up the classic 1813 novel with modern gore lore. I heard they’re doing a movie adaptation of this? Can someone please confirm? Thank you.
4. 28 Days Later
Don’t believe those who said this isn’t a true zombie movie. Their argument is ‘coz zombies can’t run. Well, hello? Zombies evolve, too.
5. Plants VS Zombies
Because zombies can’t be any cuter than these guys. Recommended for zombie beginners. Go beat ‘em up.
6. Left 4 Dead
Because this is the only game that had the decency to inform us about the zombie types: common infected, boomer, hunter, smoker, tank, charger, jockey, spitter, witch, and the list goes on.
7. White Zombie
This is the film that created the zombie genre. Starring horror legend Bella Lugosi as Haitian voodoo master Murder Legendre, the film shows a young couple on vacation who discover that Legendre’s sugar mill is run entirely by (you guessed it) ZOMBIES! Of course we all loved the part where the bride Madeleine (Madge Bellamy) transformed into one.
