The theme for the 2013 Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art was PUNK: Chaos to Couture. Okay, so punk might mean Vivienne Westwood, but just for the sake of this blog, we’ve got some punk rock/punk pop/punk/rock songs dedicated to outfits that we think stood out—in the best and worst ways possible.—HITGIRL
COUTURE: We wanna be sedated by Cara Delevingne‘s plunging studded Burberry gown. Glorious.
Our song for her: Ramones – “I Wanna Be Sedated”
COUTURE: We honestly can’t believe it, but we’re clearly sold on Miley Cyrus‘s Marc Jacobs black mesh form-fitting gown. And it’s perfect timing with V Magazine having just released their cover of her. Totally edgy choice for this generation’s punk rock girl.
Our song for her: The Dead Milkmen – “Punk Rock Girl”
COUTURE: Blondie’s “Platinum Blonde” is an obvious song choice for Anne Hathaway‘s new look. After all, she did say her ensemble was inspired by Debbie Harry. But we’re sticking to Super Furry Animals’ “Ice Hockey Hair,” because hers is “instamatic and it has such flair,” especially paired with that Valentino gown.
Our song for her: Super Furry Animals – “Ice Hockey Hair”
COUTURE: Sarah Jessica Parker‘s Spartacus-slash-Roman-horse-slash-faux hawk headdress is stunning. Some say the print on the dress is aztec, some say it’s puke and diarrhea, some say it’s an elegant gift wrapper—whatever it is, Beyoncé, we’re sorry but tonight, it’s all hail SJP.
Our song for her: The Offspring – “Hammerhead”
CHAOS: Kim Kardashian makes her first appearance at the Met Ball, and she decided to do so in a flowy (flawy), full, floral Givenchy with (what-the-fuck-are-those) attached gloves and with Kanye West. Perez says, “It’s more like 70s throw rug, if anything.” But what does Anna Wintour say about that? We dunno, but I guess Miley has something to say:
Our song for her: Miley Cyrus – “Every Rose Has Its Thorn”
CHAOS: Would you bow down to Beyonce‘s Givenchy ensemble or boo it? Someone save her (insert sad emoticon here).
Our song for her: Sex Pistols – “God Save The Queen”
